The Steel Bridge boat ramp provides convenient access to the large, 50,000-acre Lake Gaston and the Roanoke River in southwestern Virginia. Located just southwest of the town of Boydton, this ramp is suitable for launching a variety of watercraft, including kayaks, canoes, and small powerboats.
The ramp itself is paved and leads directly into the water, with a small, unpaved parking area that can accommodate approximately 30 boat trailers. Two handicapped-accessible parking spaces with a paved walkway to the ramp are also available. However, please note that there are no restroom facilities at this site.
For paddlers, the calm waters of Lake Gaston provide excellent opportunities for exploring the lake's numerous coves, inlets, and surrounding forests. The Roanoke River, which feeds into the lake, offers a more flowing, natural experience for those seeking a river-based adventure. Boaters should be aware of the lake's size and plan accordingly, as winds and weather can quickly change conditions on the open water.
