Located in Atlas near Weston in central West Virginia, this concrete boat ramp provides convenient access to Stonecoal Lake, a 550-acre impoundment managed as part of the Stonewall Jackson Lake recreation area. The ramp is one of two concrete launch facilities at the lake, positioned at one end of the waterway. Nearby amenities include a boat wash station for post-use cleanup and a marina offering boat rentals if needed.
Stonecoal Lake is an excellent destination for kayakers and canoeists seeking a peaceful paddling experience. The lake is narrow and long with numerous coves ideal for exploration, and low motorboat traffic makes it particularly welcoming for human-powered craft. The 550-acre surface offers plenty of room to explore while remaining manageable for day paddlers. The lake is also well-known for fishing opportunities, including trophy-sized muskellunge and regular stockings of bass, trout, bluegill, and other species.
This site is part of the Stonecoal Lake Wildlife Management Area and offers a wheelchair-accessible facility, making it inclusive for paddlers and boaters of varying abilities. With three public access points around the lake, paddlers can plan different routes or use multiple entry/exit points for their outings.
