The Sturgeon River access site provides a well-maintained public boat launch on Little Sturgeon Lake, a 272-acre lake in St. Louis County near Side Lake, Minnesota. The recently improved facility features two boat ramps, a floating dock, and 24 parking spaces (including one accessible spot), making it a reliable starting point for paddlers and boaters. An on-site aquatic invasive species (AIS) cleaning station is available to help protect the lake.
From this access point, paddlers can explore Little Sturgeon Lake and navigate upstream to the Sturgeon Lake chain via the inlet on the southwest side of the lake, or downstream via the outlet toward the Sturgeon River. The lake has a maximum depth of 22 feet and offers scenic surroundings typical of the north woods. The water ultimately flows to the Little Fork River, making this a good launching point for extended paddling trips through the regional waterway system.
