About This Access Site
Sucker Lake is a 585-acre lake in northeastern Itasca County offering a county-owned boat access point via an earthen ramp on the southeast corner. The access is located at the end of a forest road and includes one campsite, making it a convenient basecamp for paddlers and boaters. The lake is approximately 3.5 miles south of US Highway 2 and accessible via Ketchum Road NW near Cass Lake.

The lake's darkly stained water—a result of bog drainage—limits sunlight penetration to about 5 feet, which is typical of bog-influenced waters in this region. Sucker Lake supports populations of northern pike, walleye, crappie, and other panfish, making it popular with anglers. The earthen ramp is suitable for small boats, canoes, and kayaks, though paddlers should be aware of the soft-bottom launch conditions typical of bog lakes. This is a good option for those seeking a quieter, smaller lake experience in the Itasca area.
