Sugar Maple Lake - South Access

Sugar Maple Lake's South access point in Phelps provides public boat launch access to this 141-acre Vilas County lake. The lake reaches a maximum depth of 46 feet, offering a good mix of water conditions for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboaters. The mid-sized lake is well-suited for a variety of paddling experiences and supports populations of panfish, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, and northern pike for anglers.

This public boat landing serves as a convenient entry point for exploring Sugar Maple Lake and the surrounding area. Two reservable campgrounds are located within 10 miles—Kentuck Lake Campground and Spectacle Lake Campground—making it easy to plan a multi-day paddling trip.
