Summit Reservoir State Wildlife Area offers a boat ramp access point to Summit Reservoir, a 341-acre reservoir located near Dolores, Colorado. The boat ramp provides access for kayakers, canoeists, and small motorized boats. However, at times only hand-launched watercraft may be allowed, so visitors should check current regulations before their trip.
The reservoir is owned and operated by the Summit Reservoir and Irrigation Company, with recreation managed by Colorado Parks and Wildlife. A valid hunting or fishing license or SWA pass is required for everyone 16 and older to visit the State Wildlife Area. Visitors should review current regulations before their visit, as certain activities may be restricted.
Nearby recreation opportunities include the Cortez SRMA, which offers a range of year-round outdoor activities at lower elevations, and Mesa Verde National Park, home to ancient Ancestral Pueblo cliff dwellings. Campsites are not available directly at the Summit Reservoir State Wildlife Area, but the Morefield Campground is located within 10 miles of the site.
