The Suwannee River Sill boat ramp provides access to the Suwannee River in Charlton County, Georgia. This site marks the beginning of the Suwannee River and is a popular launch point for kayakers, canoeists, and small powerboats.
To reach the boat ramp, turn off CR 177 onto a paved road that runs along the sill and ends at the water gates. There is a small parking area near the paved boat ramp, with additional parking on the downriver side of the sill. Paddlers can launch from the concrete ramp below the gates or from the dam side above.
The Suwannee River is a large, free-flowing blackwater river known for its scenic beauty and abundant wildlife. Boaters and paddlers should be aware of variable water levels - when the river is above 65 feet at White Springs, downriver travel is not advised, and when it drops below 51 feet, shallow sections may be encountered. Powerboating is not recommended above Troy Springs, about 7 miles upriver from Branford. Nearby camping is available through the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge permit system.
