About This Access Site
Located near Trenton in Hitchcock County, this boat ramp provides access to Swanson Lake and the Republican River. The lake, created by Trenton Dam in 1953, offers 4,794 acres of water at conservation pool level with good clarity. Multiple access points are available in the area, including several boat ramps and docks. From Highway 83 near mile marker 72 (just north of Trenton), turn west to reach the access site and nearby Spring Canyon Campground.

This site works well for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboaters exploring the Republican River and Swanson Reservoir. The lake is known for walleye and black bass fishing. Spring Canyon Campground, located across from the highway turnoff, offers modern facilities including restrooms, showers, electrical hookups, and additional boat ramps with mooring docks in a sheltered bay. Nearly 4,000 acres of public land managed by Nebraska Game and Parks Commission surround the area, providing ample recreational opportunities. Note that water levels can fluctuate seasonally, so conditions may vary—check current conditions before your visit, especially during low water periods.
