Located on Toledo Bend Reservoir near Joaquin, Swede Johnson Recreation Area offers a free, year-round boat ramp suitable for kayaks, canoes, and all boat types. The facility features a single-lane ramp along with picnic tables, restrooms, and playground equipment. The Sabine River is a major waterway with an average flow of over 9,100 cubic feet per second and mild gradient (0.8 ft/mile). The reservoir setting provides generally calm conditions compared to the river's natural state. The access point at the northwest end of Toledo Bend makes it a convenient launch for paddlers exploring the reservoir's coves and shorelines. Bank fishing is also available at the site.
