Sycamore Access

Sycamore Access is a day-use boat ramp providing access to the Des Moines River in Des Moines, near Camp Dodge. The facility features a gravel boat ramp, picnic shelter, and outhouse. This is a popular put-in point for paddlers looking to explore the Des Moines River, with scenic trips available downstream—the route to Prospect Park offers approximately 5.9 river miles and a 2-hour float.

The Des Moines River in this area is part of the larger Saylorville Lake system, a 26,000-acre recreational area stretching over 50 miles up the river valley. Water conditions can fluctuate seasonally, so check current water levels before your trip. Note that the ramp has occasionally experienced closures due to construction and high water conditions, so it's worth confirming access status before visiting.

For overnight trips, Cherry Glen Campground is available within 10 miles of the access point. The area offers good opportunities for day paddling, fishing, and enjoying the natural features of central Iowa's river corridor.
