About This Access Site
**Location & Access:** Located in Grand Marais, Cook County, this boat ramp provides public access to Tait Lake in the Superior National Forest area. The launch is situated near the Sawbill Lake Campground area, making it convenient for paddlers planning multi-day trips in this remote region.

**What to Know:** This is a backcountry access point leading to primitive camping sites. The lake has two designated backcountry campsites, each equipped with a fire grate and latrine (picnic tables may be available). These sites operate on a first-come, first-served basis and are accessible only by foot or boat, making this an excellent launch point for kayakers and canoeists seeking a near-wilderness experience. Remember to treat or boil all water, hang food packs, extinguish fires completely, and wash dishes and yourself at least 200 feet from the water.

**Planning Your Trip:** This access is ideal for paddlers seeking solitude in the Superior National Forest backcountry. No reservations are needed for campsites, but arrive early during peak season to secure a spot. The nearby Sawbill Lake Campground (reservable) offers an alternative base for day trips if backcountry camping is full.
