About This Access Site
This primitive boat launch on the New River in Liberty County offers easy access for kayakers and canoeists exploring Tate's Hell State Forest's extensive waterway system. The launch is located at a tent and RV-accessible primitive campsite, making it convenient for paddlers planning multi-day trips. The facility is basic—expect no electricity, water, or restroom facilities—but provides straightforward river access for a wilderness paddling experience.

The New River at this location is a major waterway with an average flow of 12,440 cubic feet per second and relatively gentle gradient of 7 feet per mile. Paddlers should note that the launch may have a sharp drop into the water, particularly during low-water conditions. The forest contains 35 miles of usable waterways for boating, canoeing, and fishing, with additional primitive campsites and day-use areas scattered throughout. For larger motorized boats or alternative access points, Cash Creek offers a concrete ramp, while Pope Place (about 22 miles southeast) and other sites provide additional launch options within the state forest.
