About This Access Site
Taylorsville Lake Tailwater is a park-based access point located directly below Taylorsville Dam, where water from Taylorsville Lake flows into the Salt River. This is an ideal launch spot for boaters and paddlers looking to explore the tailwater section of the Salt River. The access area offers convenient parking and is free to use year-round. From Louisville, take I-65 south to I-264 east and follow brown attraction signs to Taylorsville Lake Road; then take KY 44 east of Taylorsville, turn right on Highway 2239, and follow signs to the dam.

The Taylorsville Lake area provides excellent recreational opportunities with multiple launch options. If you prefer paddling on the lake itself, two smaller boat ramps—Chowning Lane and Van Buren—are available upstream. The tailwater section below the dam is popular for boating and fishing. Water activities on the larger lake include waterskiing, wakeboarding, tubing, and jet skiing. Basic amenities are available at the access area, and the Taylorsville Lake State Park main entrance (about 1 hour from much of Kentucky's population) offers additional facilities including camping, restrooms, and nearby hotels and cabins for those planning overnight trips.
