About This Access Site
Located on the Washington side of The Dalles Dam near Dallesport, this access point provides entry to Lake Celilo, a 24-mile-long reservoir created by the dam on the Columbia River. To reach the site, take Exit 87 from Interstate 84 and head north on Highway 197, then navigate through the Dallesport Industrial Park. This is a non-reservable, day-use facility managed as part of The Dalles Visitor Center recreation area.

Lake Celilo offers relatively calm, slack-water paddling conditions ideal for kayakers and canoeists, with multiple boat ramps available in the area including one at Lake Celilo Park. The reservoir attracts a variety of water users including windsurfers, anglers, and motorboats. Keep in mind that the dam's lock system operates upstream, so be aware of any vessel traffic or operational restrictions. The site sits 192 miles upstream from the Columbia River's mouth and offers good access for both paddling and fishing activities on this scenic stretch of the Columbia.
