Thumb Lake's public access site is located on the south shore near Boyne Falls in Charlevoix County. The site features a hard-surfaced boat ramp suitable for launching kayaks, canoes, and motorboats, with parking available for 10 vehicles. This is a MDNR-administered public access point.
**What to Know Before You Go**
Thumb Lake is a quiet, undeveloped destination—the entire lake frontage is privately owned, so there are no marinas, fuel docks, or provisions available on site. Paddlers and boaters should come fully prepared with supplies, life jackets, and any equipment needed for their outing. A public swimming beach is located on the lake's east end. The area is best suited for day trips and recreational paddling rather than extended backcountry adventures.
