About This Access Site
Tie Hack Reservoir offers a scenic boat launch located 15 miles west of Buffalo, Wyoming in the Bighorn National Forest at 7,500 feet elevation. To access the ramp, take U.S. Highway 16 west from Buffalo for approximately 12 miles, then turn onto Forest Road 21 for about 0.5 miles to reach the campground and launch area. **Important restriction: No internal combustion motors are permitted on the reservoir**, making this an ideal spot for kayakers, canoeists, and non-motorized boaters.

The Tie Hack Campground offers convenient facilities with 20 camping sites plus 10 day-use picnic areas available on a reservable basis. Camping fees apply, with an additional $10/day charge for a second vehicle. Note that there is no cell service in the area, so download offline maps or bring printed directions before your visit. The site is administered by Gallatin Canyon Campgrounds; for reservations or information, call 406-587-9054.

The reservoir sits near the Cloud Peak Wilderness Area and offers a quieter paddling experience thanks to the no-motorized-boat policy. This location works well for day trips or multi-day camping excursions, with several other campgrounds nearby (Lost Cabin, Circle Park, and Hunter Campground within 10 miles). The area also provides hiking, fishing, and scenic driving opportunities throughout the Bighorn National Forest.
