Tollefson Road provides public boat ramp and carry-in access to Mud Lake in Rio, Columbia County. This is one of the primary launch points for exploring Mud Lake and accessing the Beaver Dam River system that flows through the area. The access site offers a convenient entry point for kayakers, canoeists, and small motorboats looking to explore the lake's diverse habitats and wetland environment.
The ramp can experience heavy goose activity, so watch your footing when launching. If the main Tollefson Road access is crowded or inaccessible, there are alternative access points nearby: Highway 19 to County G offers additional parking areas and access points along County G, as well as access via Mud Lake Road. Note that upstream navigation via Rock Creek at Hope Lake Road is limited due to cattail overgrowth downstream of the bridge, so plan your route accordingly.
Mud Lake is located within the Leopold Wetland Management District and Wisconsin River Islands area, offering paddlers access to rich wildlife habitat and scenic natural areas. The lake and surrounding waters provide good opportunities for wildlife viewing and exploration of the region's distinctive wetland ecosystem.
