About This Access Site
Tri-County Fish & Wildlife Area offers public access to Koontz Lake near Walkerton in Marshall County. The site features an ADA-accessible concrete boat ramp on the southeast side of the lake, just across the Marshall County line. This is a convenient launch point for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats looking to access Koontz Lake and explore the surrounding Tri-County area.

Koontz Lake is restricted to electric motors only, making it ideal for paddlers and those seeking a quieter water experience. From this access site, boaters can paddle to additional connected lakes including Shock, Spear, Hammond, Allen, Barrel, Price, Wyland, Bass, and Goldeneye—each with their own boat ramps operated by Indiana DNR. The area is popular with anglers targeting bluegill, redear sunfish, crappie, and largemouth bass. An alternative access point is available at the Koontz Lake Nature Preserve parking lot (approximately a quarter mile north), though this requires walking through the preserve to reach the water.
