About This Access Site
The Trommald access point provides public boat launch facilities on the Mississippi River in Crow Wing County, near Crosby, Minnesota. This location serves as a gateway to paddling and boating on one of North America's major waterways. The site is open 24 hours and is available for both trailer launches and carry-in access. Be aware that Black Bear Lake is nearby—follow signs west on the access road to reach the actual Mississippi River landing rather than stopping at Black Bear Lake.

The Mississippi River at this location is a substantial waterway with significant flow and current. As a major river system (Stream Order 10), expect an average velocity of approximately 11 feet per second with powerful currents typical of this section. The river's average gradient is 0.8 feet per mile. Paddlers and boaters should be prepared for strong downstream flow and plan accordingly for their skill level and watercraft type. Most Minnesota DNR ramps can accommodate 12-18 foot boats, though capacity varies by location.

The Trommald access point is situated within Minnesota's scenic lake country, with nearby recreational opportunities including the Mississippi River Headwaters area and access to the Whitefish Chain of lakes. For current conditions, specific ramp details, or additional information about this water access site, contact the Minnesota DNR.
