About This Access Site
Truman Access is a 20-acre Missouri Department of Conservation property offering access to the Mississippi River near Selma, Jefferson County. **Please note: The primary boat ramp is currently closed due to flood damage and remains under repair.** The parking lot is open, and walk-in access to Harlow Island (a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service property) is available. Contact MDC or local authorities for updates on ramp reopening status before planning your trip.

The Mississippi River at this location is a major waterway with substantial flow (average 685,000+ cubic feet/second) and moderate current. Paddlers should expect swift water movement and prepare accordingly with proper safety equipment. The river has a gentle average gradient of 0.8 ft/mile, but the strong velocity requires experience and caution, particularly during high water conditions or flood events that have historically affected this access point.

When the ramp reopens, this location will provide excellent access to a major paddling corridor. In the meantime, contact the Missouri Department of Conservation or the nearby Harry S. Truman Visitor Center for alternative access points and current conditions information.
