Twin Buttes Reservoir is a popular 360-acre fishing, boating, and windsurfing destination located about 7-8 miles southwest of Laramie via Wyoming Highway 230. The access site features a developed boat ramp, parking areas, and vault toilet facilities, making it convenient for launching kayaks, canoes, and motorboats. With approximately 4 miles of accessible lakeshore, the reservoir offers good paddling opportunities in a scenic mountain setting near the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forests.
The area is a mix of public and private lands, so please be respectful of property boundaries and posted signs. Access is free and no reservations are required. The dirt road around the lake allows boaters to explore different sections of the shoreline. Note that this is an alpine reservoir, so weather conditions can change quickly—come prepared for wind, which is common in this region and particularly affects windsurfing activity.
