The Two Harbors Protected Access on Agate Bay provides a well-maintained public boat launch for accessing Lake Superior's North Shore. Originally built in 1981 and reconstructed in 2011, this DNR-operated facility features a dedicated boat ramp with ample paved parking, including accessible parking near the launch area and separate trailer parking. The site is located along the downtown waterfront within the commercial shipping harbor near the historic Two Harbors Lighthouse.
This is an excellent access point for kayakers, canoeists, and boaters exploring Lake Superior and Agate Bay. The protected harbor setting provides calmer waters compared to open Lake Superior, making it suitable for paddlers of varying skill levels. The facility offers convenient amenities and is centrally located on the North Shore, providing easy access to water-based recreation. Note that this is an active commercial shipping harbor, so be aware of vessel traffic when launching and paddling in the immediate area.
