Located in Grafton in scenic north-central West Virginia, Tygart Lake State Park offers two concrete boat ramps with recently expanded facilities ideal for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats. The dual launch sites share a 75-spot parking lot and include amenities such as a fishing pier, portable restrooms, trash receptacles, and lighting. One ramp was recently extended to provide water access even during lower water levels later in the season, typically extending boating opportunities into October depending on rainfall.
The main attraction is the ten-mile-long Tygart Lake, a calm, scenic reservoir created in 1938 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The lake offers excellent conditions for paddling, swimming, and fishing, with no horsepower restrictions or jet ski hour limits. The surrounding Allegheny Mountain foothills provide a peaceful setting, and the park features five hiking trails for exploring the natural area. With easy vehicle access and recently improved launch infrastructure, this is a convenient entry point for paddlers and boaters of all experience levels.
