Located in Philippi, Barbour County, this boat ramp provides convenient access to the Tygart River tailwater area just downstream of Tygart Dam. The concrete launch is situated within Grafton City Park near the dam, making it an ideal put-in point for paddlers and boaters. This location is particularly valuable for kayakers and canoeists because water flows remain consistent year-round due to dam operations, allowing for reliable paddling even during dry seasons.
The section immediately below the dam features approximately 10 miles of Class I water with minimal rapids, making it suitable for paddlers of varying skill levels. From this put-in, paddlers can take out at Valley Falls State Park downstream (be sure to exit before the waterfall). The 135-mile Tygart Valley River generally maintains adequate water levels throughout the year, and this section is known for stable, manageable conditions. Note that much of the surrounding riverland is privately owned—paddlers should stay in their boats and practice Leave No Trace principles.
