About This Access Site
The Unalakleet River boat ramp provides access to the Pacific Ocean and Norton Sound for kayakers, canoeists, and small recreational boats. Located in the town of Unalakleet, this access site sits at the mouth of the Unalakleet River, which flows gently for over 400 miles from the Nulato Hills to the coast.

The Unalakleet River is designated as a Wild and Scenic River, with a varied pool-and-riffle nature that offers diverse paddling and fishing opportunities. Downstream of the designated section, the river meanders across the tundra for 10 miles before reaching the seaside village of Unalakleet. This remote location is only accessible by plane, making the boat ramp a vital access point for locals and visitors alike.

Paddlers and small boaters can use the ramp to explore the sheltered waters of Norton Sound, as well as the lower reaches of the Unalakleet River. However, caution is advised when venturing into the open waters of the sound, as conditions can be challenging. It's important to check weather forecasts and be prepared for changing weather and sea states.
