About This Access Site
**Access & Facilities:**
Unit A provides launch access to the Marais des Cygnes River within the National Wildlife Refuge near Trading Post in Linn County, Kansas. The ramp is located south of 1700 Road on the west side of the river, adjacent to the main pumping station. This is a designated access point for non-motorized boats including kayaks and canoes. Note that while the launch area is maintained, takeout points within the refuge are non-maintained, so plan your paddling route accordingly.

**Paddling & Recreation:**
The Marais des Cygnes River winds through approximately 5,000 acres of the 7,500-acre refuge, passing through scenic bottomland hardwood forests, wetlands, and prairie habitats. Non-motorized paddling is permitted throughout the river corridor within the refuge boundaries, making this an excellent destination for wildlife viewing and nature-focused paddling. The refuge was established in 1992 for forest preservation and restoration, supporting diverse plant and animal life. Be prepared for limited facilities and plan accordingly for your trip duration and takeout logistics.
