About This Access Site
Unit F offers a newly completed boat ramp providing access to the Marais des Cygnes River near Pleasanton in Linn County. The ramp is located south of 1700 Road on the west side of the river, adjacent to the main pumping station, and features ADA accessibility. This is a solid launch point for kayakers and canoeists looking to explore the refuge's waterways.

The ramp provides entry to the Marais des Cygnes National Wildlife Refuge, a 7,500-acre protected area established in 1992 to preserve bottomland hardwood forests and wetlands. Paddlers will encounter diverse ecosystems combining forests, prairies, and wetlands teeming with wildlife, making this an excellent destination for wildlife viewing and nature-oriented paddling. The refuge welcomes boating as one of its primary recreation activities alongside fishing and birding.

Before your visit, check with refuge management for any seasonal access restrictions or paddling guidelines. The refuge is part of the Kansas Refuges Complex, and paddlers should be aware of any designated hunting seasons that may affect access during certain times of year.
