Vandalia Lake is a 660-acre impoundment located approximately 4 miles northwest of Vandalia in Fayette County, accessible via Illinois Route 185. The lake features 12 miles of shoreline and a mean depth of 25 feet, making it suitable for kayaking, canoeing, and motorized boating. A full-service marina is available on-site with boat rentals, fuel, fishing supplies, and bait.
The access site offers excellent amenities for paddlers and boaters, including a boat ramp, boat dock, and picnic areas. Camping is available seasonally (Memorial Day weekend through late September), and swimming and water skiing are permitted. Note that City of Vandalia boat permits are required to operate on the water. The marina staff can provide boater licensing and additional information about lake conditions and regulations.
