The VFW Campground offers convenient access to Lake Elwell (Tiber Reservoir) on the Marias River in north-central Montana. The boat ramp has been recently repaved and is easily accessible immediately after crossing Tiber Dam, making it an ideal launch point for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboaters. The campground provides primitive camping facilities and a picnic shelter, though there is no potable water on-site. Day-use access is available year-round, and overnight camping is limited to 14-day stays.
Beyond paddling, this location offers excellent recreational opportunities including a unique birdwatching area along the Marias River below the dam, scenic sandstone formations, and views of the massive Tiber earthen dam structure. Boating, fishing, swimming, and hiking are all popular activities in the area. The site's convenient location and improved ramp facilities make it a favored spot for water recreation enthusiasts exploring the reservoir and downstream river sections.
