**Location & Access:** Waconda-Schoen's Cove is a boat ramp providing access to Glen Elder Reservoir on the Solomon River near Cawker City in Mitchell County, Kansas. The site features good access roads and is open 24 hours. This is a primary access point for the reservoir, with additional boat ramps (Osage and Kanza) located within nearby Glen Elder State Park if you need alternatives.
**Water Conditions & Recreation:** Glen Elder Reservoir is a large impoundment on the Solomon River (a Class 7 large river system with an average flow of 654 cfs and modest 1.7 ft/mile gradient). The reservoir offers excellent fishing opportunities for walleye, crappie, white bass, striped bass, and catfish. The water reaches approximately 10 feet deep near marked brushpile structures located just northeast of the ramp. The area is also notable for wildlife viewing, including seasonal bald and golden eagles in winter, as well as deer, pheasant, and waterfowl.
**Facilities & Nearby Amenities:** Glen Elder State Park (northeast corner of the lake) offers full-service camping with electric and water hookups, shower facilities, and primitive camping options on the Wildlife Area. A newly completed boat ramp at Boller Point (early 2025) provides additional launch options if needed.
