Wallace Marine Park in Salem offers convenient boat access to the Willamette River from a scenic 114-acre park in the heart of Oregon's capital. The site features a paved boat ramp popular with powerboats, as well as a gravel bar launch (known as "the old boat ramp") located beneath the pedestrian bridge, which provides an excellent alternative for kayakers and canoeists. Floating boat docks are also available for those who need them.
From this launch point, paddlers have several appealing options on the Willamette River. You can explore upstream through Willamette Slough tucked behind Minto Brown Island, or paddle directly downstream. The location's proximity to nearby Ankeny National Wildlife Refuge (near the Santiam-Willamette confluence to the north) and Baskett Slough National Wildlife Refuge adds to the area's appeal for paddlers interested in wildlife viewing. The park's central location makes this an accessible starting point for both short, scenic paddles and longer river explorations.
