About This Access Site
**Location & Access:** Walton Lake is located in Crook County, Oregon, approximately 31 miles east of Prineville. From Prineville, take Highway 26 east for 16 miles, then turn onto County Road 123 and continue for 8.5 miles until it becomes Forest Service Road 22. Follow FSR 22 for approximately 7 miles to reach the lake and boat ramp at the campground. The final miles are on forest service roads, so check conditions before visiting.

**Lake Conditions & Recreation:** This scenic alpine lake sits nestled in old-growth ponderosa pine forest with spring-fed, clear water. The lake is stocked with rainbow trout and is suitable for kayaking, canoeing, and motorized boating, though shallow-draft boats are recommended. The calm water makes it ideal for paddlers of all skill levels. A scenic 1.5-mile loop trail circles the lake, offering wildlife viewing opportunities and access to surrounding meadows and aspen groves.

**Facilities & Planning:** A boat ramp is available at the popular Walton Lake Campground (reservable camping available nearby at Ochoco Forest Camp). The area is remote, so plan accordingly—services and supplies are not available on-site. This is a great destination for a multi-day paddling and camping trip, though weather can change rapidly at elevation. Contact the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest for current conditions and any access restrictions.
