The Washington Baum Bridge boat ramp provides convenient access to the Roanoke Sound for kayakers, canoeists, and small boaters. Located just south of Pirates Cove Marina, the ramp features two launch slips and ample parking for 55 vehicles with trailers.
The Roanoke Sound is a broad, shallow estuary that offers excellent opportunities for fishing, wildlife viewing, and leisurely paddling. Its protected waters are well-suited for beginner and intermediate paddlers looking to explore the scenic shores and marshes of the Outer Banks. Boaters can also access the broader Albemarle and Pamlico Sounds from this launch site.
While facilities at the ramp are limited, the nearby Wright Brothers National Memorial and Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge offer additional recreational activities and natural areas to discover. Paddlers should plan ahead, bring necessary supplies, and exercise caution when launching and navigating the sound's open waters.
