The Waterford Dam access site in Waterford provides boat launches both above and below the dam on the Fox River in Racine County. This location serves as a key access point for paddlers and boaters exploring the upper Fox River system, which flows from the Waukesha County headwaters southward toward Illinois' popular Fox River Chain O'Lakes system. The area above the dam features the 1,800-acre Lake Tichigan, offering calmer water conditions suitable for kayaking and canoeing, while access below the dam allows paddlers to continue downstream on the river.
Fishing and boating are the primary recreational activities at this site. The launches accommodate both fishing access from the dam and riverbank as well as recreational boaters. Recent streambank stabilization work completed through a joint effort between Racine County and the Village of Waterford has improved the shoreline conditions above and below the dam, addressing erosion issues and improving the overall safety and usability of the launches. The pathways to the access points are maintained with native grasses suitable for foot traffic.
This site is part of the Upper Fox River Public Access system and sees regular use from paddlers, fishermen, wildlife watchers, and other recreational boaters. Plan your trip considering whether you want to paddle the calm water of Lake Tichigan or navigate the moving water downstream from the dam.
