West Bend Recreation Area offers straightforward access to the Big Bend of the Missouri River in Hughes County, South Dakota. The facility features a protected marina with a dedicated boat ramp, making it convenient for launching kayaks, canoes, and larger boats regardless of wind conditions. Ample trailer parking is available at the ramp area, and visitors are encouraged to launch boats directly into the water rather than storing them at campsites.

The recreation area operates seasonal storage for boats and campers from April 30 through September 30. The site serves as a popular base for both paddlers and anglers, with camping facilities available on-site.
