This carry-down launching area near Kiva provides access to the scenic West Branch Whitefish River in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The site features a natural launching area suitable for canoes and cartop boats, with **no improved ramp** available. The access point is operated by Van Riper State Park and offers 10 parking spaces and toilet facilities for visitor convenience.
From this location, paddlers can explore the Whitefish River corridor, a natural, undeveloped waterway popular for fishing, hunting, and boating. Be aware that there is no intermediate access for approximately 3½ miles downstream until the East Branch merges with the West Branch. The rivers then continue together to the public launch at Rapid River, making this a suitable starting point for multi-mile paddling trips through a scenic backcountry setting. Wildlife watching, sightseeing, and trail exploration are also available in the area.
