West Cove Canal in Hackberry, Cameron Parish offers an easily accessible boat ramp for paddlers and small boaters looking to explore Louisiana's coastal marsh system. The launch provides convenient access to approximately 1 mile of paddling to West Cove, with additional exploration possible another mile south to Old Camp Canal. The area is situated near the Sabine National Wildlife Refuge, which protects critical habitat for migratory waterfowl and coastal marsh wildlife, making this an excellent destination for nature-oriented paddling and birdwatching.
Paddlers should be aware that the canal experiences some boat traffic, so visibility and caution are recommended, particularly during peak use periods. For a more tranquil experience, consider visiting during off-peak hours. The ramp is located about 5 miles east of Holly Beach on LA-27 S. Note that West Cove Canal is closed to fishing, and nearby picnic areas provide scenic spots to rest and enjoy views of the marsh landscape. This access point is best suited for small boats, kayaks, and canoes exploring shallow coastal marsh waters.
