West Hickory Access is a developed boat launch located on the left riverbank on the downstream side of the West Hickory Bridge in Tionesta. This is a well-maintained facility operated cooperatively by the PA Fish & Boat Commission and local authorities, offering ample parking, an interpretive display, and a picnic shelter—making it an ideal starting or stopping point for paddlers exploring the Allegheny River.
The site provides convenient amenities including seasonal restroom facilities and nearby access to dining and shopping in the town of Tionesta. Paddlers should note that downstream alternatives like Tionesta and Lighthouse Island access sites also offer boat launch ramps. The surrounding area is part of the scenic Allegheny National Forest, with excellent fishing opportunities and scenic islands featuring notable stands of sycamore and silver maple trees. This section of the Allegheny is popular with kayakers, canoeists, and anglers, and the Tionesta Recreation Area Campground (reservable) is located within 10 miles for those planning an overnight trip.
