About This Access Site
West Horsehead Lake is a 377-acre public access lake located in Harshaw, Oneida County, in Wisconsin's Northwoods. The boat ramp features a single paved launch lane with shallow launch depth (less than 3 feet), making it suitable for kayaks, canoes, and smaller watercraft. Parking is available with 1-5 vehicle/trailer stalls. The lake reaches a maximum depth of 23 feet, providing good water conditions for paddling and boating throughout the season.

The lake supports a healthy fishery including musky, panfish, largemouth bass, northern pike, and walleye, making it popular with anglers as well as recreational paddlers. This is a state-owned public access point, so it's free and open to the public. Note that there is no fish cleaning area on-site. Given the shallow launch area, paddlers should be mindful of water levels during low-water periods. This is a good option for a day trip or recreational paddling in the area.
