About This Access Site
West Twin Lake is a 120-acre backcountry lake located in Cook County near West Cook, Minnesota. The boat ramp is situated on the northeast corner of the lake near the outlet to East Twin Lake and provides access to paddlers and small boats. Note that this launch is not suitable for larger boats and may be unusable during low water conditions. A parking area accommodates nine vehicles with boat trailers; a pass is required to park trailers at Three Rivers Park District launches from April 1 through November.

The lake offers two backcountry campsites available on a first-come, first-served basis. One site is accessible by foot from the boat launch, while a second boat-in-only site is located on the north side of the lake. Each site features a fire grate, latrine, and may have a picnic table. From West Twin Lake, boaters can access Lower Twin Lake and, via a channel under Highway 100, continue to Middle Twin Lake, making this a good starting point for exploring the interconnected lake system.

Paddlers should come prepared for backcountry conditions: treat or boil all water, hang food packs, extinguish fires completely when leaving, and wash dishes and yourself away from the water. With a maximum depth of 18 feet and 2 miles of shoreline, West Twin Lake is suitable for kayaks and canoes.
