The Westerly Municipal Boat Ramp provides public access to the Pawcatuck River in downtown Westerly, making it a convenient launch point for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboaters. This location serves as the endpoint for popular paddling trips down the Pawcatuck River—such as the scenic 7-mile stretch from Potter Hill Mill upstream. The ramp is owned and maintained by the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) and is regularly used by recreational paddlers and anglers.
**Current Access Note:** The boat ramp facility has undergone construction, which may affect full ramp availability. However, hand-carried boats and car-top kayaks can still access the Pawcatuck River shoreline via the northern portion of the ramp property. Paddlers needing alternative launch points should note that Donahue Park, located about 250 yards upriver on the opposite bank, also offers hand-carried boat access.
Located near several important wildlife refuges—including Trustom Pond and Ninigret National Wildlife Refuges—the area offers excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing and paddling exploration. The Wood-Pawcatuck River Guide is recommended for those planning extended paddle trips on this river system.
