Wheeler Waterfront Park provides a scenic boat ramp and dock access to Nehalem Bay in Tillamook County. Located 1 mile north of Nehalem off Highway 101, the site is easily accessed by turning onto Necamney Road and following signs to the state park facility. The park offers improved launch infrastructure with boarding docks, making it a convenient put-in for kayakers, canoeists, and motorized boats. **Note:** Docks are seasonally removed beginning mid-October and typically reinstalled in May, so plan accordingly for shoulder-season paddling.
Nehalem Bay offers protected paddling with scenic views of the bay and surrounding islands. Paddlers should be aware that this is a tidal estuary with varying water levels—the bay can experience significant tidal changes, which may affect launch and takeout conditions. An alternative ramp exists at the Highway 101 bridge crossing near Nehalem for those needing low-tide access. The area is popular with both recreational paddlers and anglers, and channel markers help guide navigation closer to the state park facility.
The surrounding region features excellent wildlife viewing opportunities, including nearby Cape Meares National Wildlife Refuge with its old-growth forest and nesting seabirds. The park itself provides beautiful landscaping and bay views, making it a pleasant staging area before heading out on the water.
