About This Access Site
The White Iron Lake South access point is a concrete boat ramp located on the southwest side of White Iron Lake, a substantial 3,246-acre water body situated three miles southeast of Ely, Minnesota. This public access site is one of two ramps on the lake, making it a convenient launching point for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats exploring this popular paddling destination. The ramp can accommodate boats up to 12-18 feet, and there are no launch fees at this location.

From this southern access point, paddlers have excellent opportunities to explore the expansive lake or connect to adjacent waters. White Iron Lake can also be accessed by boat to the Garden Reservoir via Farm Lake, opening up additional paddling routes in the area. The lake is surrounded by resorts and natural shoreline, and paddlers may also encounter backcountry camping opportunities on nearby lands like Bear Island, located 10 miles southwest of Ely. This makes the south ramp an ideal starting point for day trips or multi-day paddling adventures in northeastern Minnesota's lake country.
