About This Access Site
The Whittier boat ramp provides convenient access to the Tuckasegee River, a large mountain river flowing through western North Carolina. The ramp features a paved turnaround area, making it easy to launch and retrieve canoes, kayaks, and small boats.

The Tuckasegee River is a sizable waterway, spanning over 65 miles in length with an average flow of nearly 1,900 cubic feet per second. With an elevation drop of over 1,900 feet, the river has a relatively steep gradient, creating opportunities for paddlers to experience whitewater sections as well as calmer stretches. The river's classification as a 7th order stream indicates it is a major tributary in the region.

Nearby camping options include the reservable Deep Creek Group Camp and Smokemont Group Camp and Campground within the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, located just a short distance from the Whittier access site. The park's diverse ecosystems and recreational opportunities make it a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts.
