About This Access Site
Wild River State Park in Almelund offers a concrete boat launch for accessing the scenic St. Croix River. This access point is ideal for paddlers and boaters looking to explore 18 miles of river within the park. The facility provides vault toilets, picnic tables, and drinking water. **Important:** A Minnesota state park vehicle permit is required for all vehicles using this launch. The park also features a concessionaire offering canoe rentals and shuttle services, making it convenient for day trips or longer paddles.

The St. Croix River in this section offers calm, serene stretches suitable for recreational paddling and wildlife viewing. Additional launch points are available within the park, including the Sunrise River access in the southern portion, allowing paddlers flexibility in planning routes. The area supports a variety of recreational activities beyond paddling, including camping (both semi-modern and rustic options), hiking, and horseback riding. Jet skis are prohibited on this section of river, keeping the area quieter for kayakers and canoeists. For trip planning assistance and park information, visit the St. Croix River Visitor Center (mid-April through October, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.) or contact park staff at (715) 483-2274.
