Willow Slough provides boat ramp access within the Doug Travis Wildlife Management Area, a scenic bottomland hardwood ecosystem near Columbus in western Kentucky. The ramp offers entry to cypress sloughs and oxbow lakes ideal for paddling and fishing. The management area is known for panfish, bass, catfish, and Asian carp, making it popular with anglers. Note that portions of the area are closed to public access from November 1 through March 15, so plan your visit accordingly.
The site is located on a network of sloughs and oxbow lakes, with most areas accessible by wading or small boats. Paddlers should expect shallow water conditions typical of bottomland cypress habitat. The landscape features excellent wildlife viewing opportunities, including a great blue heron rookery and populations of deer, turkey, squirrel, and waterfowl. For those seeking broader paddling opportunities, the Laketon Road boat ramp at the northern border of the property provides access to the Mississippi River.
Before visiting, check with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources to confirm the area is open and to understand current hunting seasons and special regulations that may apply, particularly for waterfowl hunting during fall and winter months.
