About This Access Site
Willow Slough Fish & Wildlife Area offers boat ramp access to the Iroquois River near Kentland in Newton County. Two dedicated boat ramps are located near the headquarters area, providing convenient launch points for kayakers, canoeists, and small motorized vessels. The facility encompasses nearly 10,000 acres, including 1,200 acres of open water and marshes, offering plenty of space for paddling exploration.

**Important restrictions to note:** No motorized water vehicles are allowed on J.C. Murphey Lake, making it ideal for kayaks, canoes, and paddle boats. Swimming is not permitted in any water bodies at the site. The area supports a healthy fishery with bass, bluegill, channel catfish, redear sunfish, crappie, and northern pike—shoreline fishing is available along designated piers.

The site is managed by the Indiana DNR and offers a rustic outdoor experience with ample acreage to explore, though formal trails are limited. Consider calling ahead or visiting the headquarters to confirm ramp conditions and any current access details.
