Winchester Lake 1 is a primitive boat launch located at the west end of County Road 3 NW in Grant County, Washington, approximately 14 miles south of Ephrata. The access site features a gravel parking area with an unimproved boat ramp, along with an outhouse facility. This is an ideal entry point for kayakers and canoeists looking to explore Winchester Lake's warm water fishing opportunities within the Desert Wildlife Recreation Area.
The site offers year-round access and permits primitive camping, making it suitable for extended paddling trips. Note that there are no ADA facilities available, and the launch is unimproved, so hand-launch or smaller watercraft may be better suited than larger boats. Additional primitive parking is available at the north and south ends of the recreation unit if the main lot is full. The surrounding Desert Wildlife Recreation Area includes Winchester Reservoir, Winchester Wasteway, Frenchman Hills Wasteway, and numerous small ponds and marshes, providing ample exploration opportunities for paddlers interested in warm water fishing or wildlife viewing.
