Located five miles north and one mile west of Tecumseh in Johnson County, Wirth Brothers is a primitive boat launch on the Lower South Fork Little Nemaha River. This 89-acre park, opened in 1996 as part of the South Branch Watershed flood control project, provides access for kayakers, canoeists, and boaters looking to explore this section of the river. The launch itself is basic—four-wheel drive vehicles are recommended for using the ramp, though paddlers can also manually slide boats into the water.
The most popular paddling destination from this access is the 5-mile float downstream to Spring Creek Boat Access, which typically takes 4-5 hours to complete. This makes Wirth Brothers an ideal starting point for a moderate half-day paddle on the Little Nemaha River. Visitors can also enjoy fishing, swimming, and other recreation opportunities at the site. Plan accordingly for primitive facilities and bring what you need for your trip.
