About This Access Site
Wolf Lake is a 289-acre lake located eight miles west of Ely in St. Louis County. The boat ramp is situated on the south side of the lake and is accessed via an off-ramp from Highway 169. This is a shallow ramp suitable for launching kayaks, canoes, and smaller boats. The lake features brown, bog-stained water typical of northeastern Minnesota lakes and has a maximum depth of 28 feet, making it suitable for recreational paddling and fishing.

This Class 5 Ecological Lake offers opportunities for panfish, bass, walleye, and northern pike fishing. The access site includes basic amenities such as a picnic area and dock. There is seasonal camping available at Wolf Lake with hookups ($2,500 for the season), with fees paid at the Wolf Lake Municipal Liquor Store or City Clerk's office. The site is open during summer and fall months. Paddlers should be aware of the shallow ramp entry point and plan accordingly for water conditions.
